Back-to-Back Brilliance! Congratulations to Our 2025 Pro Drive Hamilton Waikato Men’s Masters Champion – Ben Westgate
What a spectacular day it was for the 2025 Pro Drive Hamilton Waikato Men’s Masters, hosted at the picturesque Waikare Golf Club. We’re thrilled to congratulate Ben Westgate, from Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club, who has done it again — successfully defending his title and securing back-to-back wins as our Men’s Masters Champion! A tremendous achievement and a testament to his consistency and class under pressure.
Ben opened his day with a solid 69 (-1) in the morning round — a respectable score, but with the bar set high by others in the field, he knew he’d need to turn up the heat in the afternoon. And that’s exactly what he did. Delivering a composed and clinical performance, Ben carded a superb 68 (-2) in the second round, giving him a two-round total of 137 (-3) to take the title with a 4-shot victory.
A tight battle played out behind him, with Blair Clark and Stuart Baird finishing tied for second on 141, with Blair claiming runner-up on countback. Stuart, who had fired a phenomenal 65 (-5) in the morning to lead all scorers, rounded out the top three — a fantastic effort by all.
The day began with a definite chill in the air — and more than a few fingers crossed that a frost delay wouldn’t hold us up. Thankfully, the weather played nice, and the full field was off promptly at 7:45am for a shotgun start. As the morning progressed, the sun broke through and warmed up not just the air but the atmosphere — setting the stage for an incredible day of golf.
Players grabbed a quick bite during the lunch break (big thanks to the new caterers for keeping everyone well fed!), and although our 12:30pm start was slightly delayed, everyone was back out and underway by 1:00pm for round two. The afternoon ran like clockwork, with smooth pace of play and all groups finishing by 4:45pm — a great result for a 36-hole day.
Special thanks are due to the amazing team at Waikare Golf Club, whose efforts made the day truly memorable:
To the club staff, who opened the doors bright and early at 6:00am and had the fireplace crackling — a small touch that meant a lot.
To the greens staff, for presenting the course in immaculate condition — fast greens, clean fairways.
To the new catering team, whose delicious lunches and after-golf platters were a massive hit with players.
And of course, to Kathleen and Christine, who kept the refreshments flowing at the bar and brought smiles all around.
To all the players who travelled near and far to be part of this event — thank you. Your energy, spirit, and sportsmanship are what make the Waikato Men’s Masters such a standout on the calendar. We truly hope you enjoyed the experience and look forward to seeing you all again in 2026 for another fantastic edition.
Until next time — keep swinging, stay sharp, and thank you for being part of something special.
