The Final for the 2019 ProDrive Waikato junior pennants was held at the Cambridge golf club on Sunday. There were five teams competing for the title this year after Ngaruawahia and the Ngahinepouri/Taumarunui Combined team finished tied on 564 Points after five rounds.
Thie weather was perfect, the course was magnificent and the players were ready to fire. The first palyer off was Todd Higgs From the Hamilton Golf Club, upon his return to the clubhouse early signs looked promising for Defending Champs The Hamilton Golf Club with their rock (Todd) carding 42 points to kick start the scoring (six under his handicap). The rest of the scoring was good honest golf without setting the world on fire. Isaac Steel managed 40 points in the middle of the field. Shaam Bhullar and DJ Mills both rustled up 38 points. But the start shinning brightest on the day was that of Nirati Rutherford. Nirati managed a personal best 10 under her handicap score of 46 points!
When it came time to tally the scores there was an air of excitment in the room. one by one they came together. Ngaruawahia couldnt repeat their home course heroics from the week before falling short on a best 3 out of 5 team score of 102 points. Riverside were next up on the list with a team total of 110 points. The hamilton golf Club had won 4 rounds outright and lead the competition by 25 points at the end of the round robin but they could only muster a score of 112 points. Ngahinepouri/Taumarunui combined team secured the runners up position with a total of 113 points. Which leaves the winners of the 2019 ProDrive Waikato Junior Pennants on a comanding score of 121 points!
On behalf of all the Waikato Golf Team I would like to offer a massive Congratulations to the Te Awamutu Golf Club on you victory. I would also like to thank all the players for turning up every week along with the support from the parents/managers/coaches/brothers and sisters made to hang out at golf for 6 hours.
