The WGA 2018 Inter-Collegiate Champs were held at the Hamilton Golf Club on Monday 14th of May. This annual competition is played between schools in teams of four players with the best three scores counting towards the teams’ total. Top golfers from all the Waikato Schools were present and there were some hot favourite teams, namely that of the Hamilton Boys High #1 and St Peters #1.

The course at St Andrews was in fantastic condition. The green keepers were at it early, cutting and rolling the greens to give the course maximum protection against the furious onslaught that was to come.

There was only one story once the golfers got underway. That was the Focus Jonglikit show. Three holes in Focus slam dunked the ball in for her second ever hole in one! Focus made Birdie on the 10th before Bogey on 14th another Eagle on the 16th and Bogey on 17th to lead her St Peters #1 Team with a three under 69 (adjusted to 67 for difference in course ratings). The rest of the St Peters team Oak Archvarin, Ing Iadpluem and Rhys Thomas all contributed admirably with 75, 76(74 Adjusted) and 80 respectively. This gave them a team total of 216 and the undoubted victory.

The Hamilton Boys High School #1 team of Luke Kidd, Logan Madden, Dominic Letford and Hamish Mellow all put in good performances. Shooting 75, 78, 79 and 78 respectively giving them a team score of 231 and second place.

This event was also highlighted once again by the volume of entrants. The 33 teams we had enter the WGA Inter-Collegiate Teams day on the 7th flowed into an impressive 11 teams entered here at the Champs making once again for an awesome vibe and competitive spirit.

The St Peters Scool Team will now go on to represent the Waikato Region at the 2018 NZ National Intercollegiate Championship Final, to be played at the Manawatu Golf Course in Palmerston North on Monday 3rd September.

WGA wishes the Players and Management all the best at this prestigious event on the Secondary Schools Calendar.
