Tough conditions were to be overcome when the NZ Age Group Championships were held in the Hawkes Bay district.

A number of boys and girls from the Waikato travelled down to the Hastings Golf Club and Hawkes Bay Golf Club to compete in the respective Boys and Girls competitions.

In the Boys tournament being played at Hastings Golf Club; three Waikato players finished inside the top 20; with a top 10 finish for Charlie Smail. Charlie finished 10^th overall with scores of 74, 73 & 75 in the 54 hole event. Tyler Wood was a further shot behind posting scores of 78, 75 & 70. Jordan Woodall was the other player to finish inside the top 20 with scores of 77, 72 & 76. Other notable Waikato players included Jack Trower who after a couple of tough rounds finished strong with a 1under par 71. Luke Kidd was consistent and posted rounds of 77, 76 & 76. James Fellows-Ford was also consistent posting scores of 76, 77 & 78.

In the Girls tournament being played at the Hawkes Bay Golf Club, St Peters Golfer Hitomi Tamura finished in 6^th spot with scores of 74, 75 & 78. Fellow school member Focus Jonglikit was next best with scores of 73, 77 & 82 to finish 11^th. Other Waikato players Zeta Syme and Zoann Huang finished in a tie for 23^rd.

Some of the boys are travelling to Waitangi to play the North Island Strokeplay this weekend. Good luck to those boys! The next major event will be the boys and girls Junior Inter-provincials which are held in the first and second week of October. These teams will be named this week.
