PROS LINE UP FOR BRIAN PERRY CLASSIC

Waikato’s acclaimed Pro-Am Golf Tournament, the Brian Perry Classic, is again attracting a solid line up of professionals.

Teeing off for the eighth time on Friday, February 24th, the BP Classic will play host to the current 2017 NZ Order of Merit leader, Jared Pender and many other leading professionals vying to climb the rankings. Recent NZPGA Tour winner, Daniel Pearce is another contender, having won the Masterton-Eketahuna Pro Am two weeks ago. Waikato Representative player Luke Toomey will also be making his first appearance at a professional event since turning pro in January.

Troy Rophia is back to defend his title from 2016, along with previous winners of the tournament including Richard Lee (2011 & 2013), Kieran Muir (2015) and David Smail (2012 & 2014).

Building on the success of previous years, the tournament will again have a significant focus on supporting junior golf. A strong field of juniors are set to play, including NZ Junior Representatives; Brother & Sister Shaun and Alanna Campbell from Bay of Plenty, along with Waikato Senior Representative players, Jordan Woodall & Zeta Syme.

“The event has always been a legacy to Brian’s devotion to sport and to this region and it now also pays tribute to his commitment to youth.” said Simon Perry, son of the late Brian Perry and Chairman of the Brian Perry Charitable Trust.

The event is run over one day and pairs each amateur team with both a professional golfer, and an up-and-coming junior player. Juniors compete for more than $4,000.00 in scholarships.

“Including juniors in this premier event really cements it as a legacy to Brian’s vision and to his personal values”, continued Perry.

The Brian Perry Trust already provides more than a dozen scholarships annually. For more information on the annual scholarship round visit brianperry.co.nz.

Brian Perry passed away in 2011.
