
It was the team from St Peters School Cambridge who proved too good in the Division One 9 Hole Schools Golf League 2016.
After a come from behind victory in 2015 for Hamilton Boys High School, St Peters School Cambridge were looking to hit the front and not look back in the 2016 Competition.
Hamilton Boys High School #1 Team got off to the best start however, with par 36 scores for both James Fellows-Ford and Sam Brinkworth, Michael Jones was the other counter on 40. A score of 112 would give them a 5 shot lead over St Peters in round 1.
However, St Peters School bounced back in Round 2 with Focus Jongkilit leading the way with a -1 35. Joe Tiplady 36 and Charlie Smail 37. A week 2 total of 108 was far superior to Hamilton Boy's 121 blowout in Round 2.
St Peters School didnt look back cruisng to victory over rivals Hamilton Boys High School. A four round total of 443 was 17 shots clear of Hamilton Boys in the end. St Peters golfer Focus Jongkilit was the most impressive throughout the 4 round event, taking out Individual Gross honors over fellow teammate Joe Tiplady and Sam Brinkworth (HBHS).
Jayden Cleary (HBHS) was the most consistent golfer taking out the Best Individual Nett Title.
Division 2 is an ambrose style event, and in 2016 there were 6 teams fighting it out for victory. Hamilton Boys High School would take Team Gross honors with a gross score of 127, 10 shots clear of rival Hamilton Boys High School Teams #2 and #3, also tied on 137 was Te Awamutu College Team #2.
The Nett event was a much closer afair however, with 2nd and 3rd less than a shot behind the leader.
A new handicapping system would see teams who were 4 under their handicap lose half a shot for the next round and those 4 above gaining half a shot.
It was the Hamilton Boys High School Team #2 who took out the top Nett prize with a score of 127.18, closely followed by Te Awamutu College # 2 on 127.5 and the the third HBHS team on 127.82.
