Congratulations to the Riverside 2 Handicap Match Play Team who have defended their title for 2021. The final was played at Riverside Golf Club and it was the Riverside number 1 team taking on the Riverside number 2 team. This is the first time since the competition began that two teams from the same club have been in the final.
Defending champions Riverside 2 got off to the start that they wanted by taking a 2 – 1 lead in the morning foursomes matches with wins to Ilton/Sutton and Latham/Skilton.
Greg Ilton continued his winning ways in the afternoon singles matches by defeating Paul Coleman on the 18th hole to win 1UP but the momentum started to shift as Jason Orton, Steve Williamson and Lee Kilgour all recorded wins for Riverside 1 who took the lead 4 – 3 with two matches still to come in. All eyes were on the final two matches and it was Riverside 2 who showed why they are the reigning champions and held their nerve to win both the matches and come from behind to win 5 – 4.
Congratulations to the Riverside 2 team of Greg Ilton, Ray Sutton, Vincent latham, Peter Skilton (Captain), Dean Raven and Lewis Smith.
Thank you to all the teams who took part this season and thank you to all the clubs who hosted, we look forward to doing it all again in 2022.
